Whey Protein and its Benefits

Whey protein is one of the main groups of protein found in milk. Used primarily to promote muscle growth, whey protein includes all of the essential amino acids and serves as an alternative to milk for those who are lactose intolerant.

There are numerous studies involving whey protein and its health benefits:

According to one study published in Nutrition & Metabolism, people who took a specialized whey fraction “lost significantly more body fat and showed a greater preservation of lean muscle than” those who had a control beverage.
In the journal Anticancer Research, promising results were shown in the use of whey protein concentrate (WPC) and glutathione modulation in cancer treatment.
In The British Journal of Nutrition, there was a significant decrease in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in the whey group compared to the those of the casein group.
In the International Journal of Food Science and Nutrition, children with asthma who were supplemented with whey for one month had an improved cytokine response, improving immune response in children with asthma.
Published in the International Dairy Journal, research showed that beverages that were supplemented with whey protein significantly reduced elevated blood pressure and the risk of stroke and heart disease.
